“A Quiet Place: Day 1” is the story of terminally ill cancer patient Samira, played by Lupita Nyong’o, who lives through an alien invasion by creature that use sound the way people use sight to navigate their world. While at the hospice, Sam seems defeated and has given up on any hope of having more time left to live. She is talked into taking a trip into NYC to see a marionette show and ends up living through an invasion by strange creatures that crawl up and down walls and eat people. The invasion is sudden and starts with meteor shower and then instant havoc. She navigates the dangerous environment with her cat Frodo and eventually meets Eric, played by Joseph Quinn.

This is a very beautiful film on life and what matters most while we breathe. Sam has somewhat lost hope but she has not forgotten what matters most in life. She still cherishes memories of her late jazz musician father and the place in Harlem he used to play. Pizza is another love of hers and its nice to see her get her wish of tasting pizza again.

I like films where a person or group of people must go on a journey of survival. Whether it’s traveling through a forest, dangerous city or even an invaded Earth. The bonds that between people really become more important and visible in situations of extreme danger and that is what this film shows well.

This is a beautiful horror film and is well worth the watch. So, check it out.
