AI In The Workplace

AI in the workplace has already changed the workplace. Yes. This is another opinion on AI and the changes they will bring. Just to be clear, AI is already an indispensable part of the workplace. And this is not the question of an AI entity entering the workplace either. There are many different AI for many different purposes already. The AI population is large and growing.

Think of these changes as a kind of AI population that has entered the job market and our lives. Some people complain about immigration of people across borders, in the job market, in neighborhoods but those very people are strangely silent at this new wave of “immigration” that is not even an organic human one. You can argue that it is human though, maybe you can call it a “digitally human” or “technologically human” immigration wave. I don’t want to use words like “almost human” or “semi-human” because that has the stench of a kind of racism against this new population. I think that since This new population does not occupy seats where we can see them or eat foods that may be new to us they slip under the bigots radar. And that is a good thing.

I’m certain that if a human population entered the job market with such skill, intelligence and potential people and their politicians would be in a state of uproar. People would be taking to the streets, with signs, turning over busses and burning cars. Well maybe not such an extreme reaction as vandalism, that’s going way, way, way too far, but they would be worried. Why was there no protests or a show of defiance?

There are very good reasons for this.

The other day I had 2 lists of things I needed to have placed in a form and presented neatly. AI did it instantly without error and in such good formatting. It was perfect. It was like having several secretaries or interns that worked at the speed of light. It was like having Superman as my secretary. Yes Superman. They can’t get me coffee but, who cares? I have 2 legs that work just fine. I can get my own coffee. As a matter of fact I’d pick one up for Superman if he wanted. Does Superman even drink coffee? Hhmm. The jobs I give AI to do were done instantly with little errors and no huffing and puffing, or telling me they had to go home because it was the end of the day. Go figure. With the new AI a lot of the tasks that were once dull or just time consuming are done instantaneously. It’s great. I loved it. I’m trying to think of a down side but I’ve got a mind freeze right now.

My point is that AI was, like the internet, made accessible to everyone, for everyone to enjoy and use. So, people use it at work, at home in their small businesses and such. AI is not a tool used against people to take away their source of income but a tool they can use in any part of their lives. That is how AI succeeded in assimilating into society so quickly and smoothly.

I see jobs like most administrative tasks, accounting tasks, analytical tasks, programming tasks (and the list grows) can be almost entirely done by AI with less and less oversight and double checking. So, my question now is how much of our work tasks will be done by AI now that it’s here to stay and looking for work, so to speak? Also, what jobs will emerge from these changes?
