“All Systems Red” is the story of a SecUnit, part organic, part machine security unit/soldier who secretly calls itself Murderbot. The story begins with the rescue of a scientific team and the discovery that information about the planet they are on has been suppressed. Throughout the story the scientific team looks at Murderbot with suspicious eyes but need it. Murderbot is a supersoldier in most senses ofthe word. It has incredible fighting and shooting skills with incredible strength and dexterity to match. It is also able to heal itself very quickly and has an agile mind. The funny thing about it though is that it loves to watch soap operas and is not so social around people.

“All Systems Red” is a good read for the simple fact that its main character, Murderbot, is sentient even though it is not recognized as such by society. It is capable at what it does but yearns for its freedom and to stay alive like any threatened slave would. Murderbot is a character stuck in a world that treats it like cattle, complete with an expiration date and bogus excuses. I loved the way the author showed us Murderbot from the inside so we, the reader, knew what its thoughts and fears were.

“All Systems Red” is a very good novella that deserves to be translated to screen. I feel it could get a fair translation to screen because of the clear writing.

I really enjoyed “All Systems Red”. Its a fun read.
