“Bird Box” is an American, post apocalyptic, drama, scifi, thriller produced by Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Layton Townsend, Sandra Bullock, Susanne Beir, Ainsley Davis, Alexa Faigen, Eric Heisserer and Ryan Lewis. It was directed by Susanne Beir and the screenplay was written by Eric Heisserer. It was based on the novel of the same name written by Josh Maleman. The cast includes Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle McDonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), BD Wong, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Keith Jardine, Shirley Butler, Happy Anderson, Sabina Nogic, Matt Leonard, David Mastmalchian, Taylor Handley, Amy Gumenick, Parminder Nagra, Colson Baker,  among others.

“Bird Box” is the story of Malorie Hayes, played by Sandra Bullock, who suddenly finds herself in the middle of chaos. As she leaves the hospital with her sister the scene around them is one resembling a riot and as it turns out the world has gone to crap. People are gripped by a kind of insanity where they commit suicide. All this happens while the people who are not yet affected rush to leave the area. It´s chaos and pandemonium in Malorie´s California suburb. She meets a group of people who are hiding out in a house after her sister commits suicide and they all begin to discover the nature of the chaos and how it originated in Romania and spread over the globe.

The character of Malorie is a reclusive person who paints and has a very good relationship with her sister but avoids the outside world. She doesn´t seem agoraphobic but the reasons for her lifestyle really aren´t clear. I think the answer subtly lies in the background somewhere, so I´ll have to check it out again because who doesn´t find a good mystery irresistible.

The group of people she allies herself with come from different backgrounds with different skills and must work together to survive. Yes, characters qualities or faults have a way of rising to the surface in post apocalypse situations and that is one of the reasons why I love this story genre. And sometimes people who have, what seem like faults, when society is working are not so flawed when things fall apart like the character of Charlie, played by Lil Rel Howery, who might have been considered to be someone lacking social skills when society was running but was a source of valuable information when things went to crap. He helped the group understand what was happening.

Sandra Bullock does a great job as the character of Malorie. She really does a great job of portraying a hero who is kind but determined, vulnerable but very capable and not paralysed by her fears. This is a fun watch with a lot of great talent so check it out folks.
