”Gettysburg” is a narrative, re-enactement of the battle of Gettysburg, which took place in July 1st to July 3rd 1863 in and around the town of Gettysburg, PA. It was a battle between Union forces(the North) and Confederate forces (the South) during the American Civil War. This battle had the largest number of casualties of all battles in the American Civil War and is considered the turning point of the American Civil War in the Union´s favor. Gen. R. E. Lee lost one third of his army at Gettysburg. The Confederate forces were also known as ”Rebels”. The American Civil War is also known as the War of Southern Independence in the Deep South.
This documentary is a good account of what happened during the war as well as describe some of the historical figures involved. From the leader of the Army of the Potomac, Maj. Gen. George G. Meade to Army of Northern Virginia led by Gen. R. E. Lee down to some of the flag bearers and solders.
The 3 day long battle of Gettysburg culminated with Picket´s Charge and the last chance for Confederate forces to win at Gettysburg. Gen. Robert E. Lee lost his best chance to invade the Northern territories of the United States of America. President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address on November 19th, 1863. Robert E. Lee eventually surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant on April 9th, 1865 marking an end to the American Civil War and ushering in the era of Reconstruction.
