Muggy Days

Some parts of the world, the Western World in particular, are getting hotter and seeing more drought. We hear of droughts and forest fires, more and more vicious tornadoes and heat waves that take us by surprise every year, year after year. Cities on the East Coast of the US and certain parts of Western Europe are experiencing terrible heat waves. These heat waves are sometimes so bad that some people die from heat stroke, mostly the elderly. The numbers of casualties from heat stroke every year are not advertised in the mainstream media but they are higher than before. Year after year the number of casualties from heat waves increases and that is disturbing. Where will this changing climate lead us and what kind of future will we be in as a result?

Firstly, summers in cities like New York, Paris, Madrid, Milan and many others have become hotter and more humid. I expect the hottest part of the Summer in New York City will be a muggy one for a longer time. Clothes will stick to you as you walk down the street. You will sweat just standing still. You might think that that is no big deal. That muggy summer days have always been common in New York City. But what about the duration of such hot and humid days? What about a winter that lasts a week with a few days of snow that don’t stick to the street? What about ski resorts that don’t get as much natural snow as before? That is where the problems of climate are most visible to us. Having longer summers and practically no winters are a problem.

So, what do we do with our muggy days?
