Net Neutrality

May 2015 editorial – Part 3

I don´t have much to add to the net neutrality debate but my final point is an important one. The internet should be a place to do business, a bazaar of ideas, works and expression. That is why the legal and political worlds have to catch up with the times and recognize the importance of an internet that is accessible to all.

The internet is a global indispensable resource now in most of the world. It is the cultural repository of humankind and a place to do business. It connects people. For those reasons we need a 34th amendment to our Constitution that would guaranty certain inalienable rights to the individual vis-a-vis the internet. Points to consider when drafting The Internet Constitution would be:

  •  Internet access to all at acceptable speeds (set a minimum speed)
  • Individuals rights to all their own information and knowledge of who was granted access to their information and why.
  • Prohibit government, big business and any entities from tampering with internet networks or data packets in order to impede, steal or manipulate data packets or their flow.
