No Good Deed
Released 2014

“No Good Deed” is an American thriller released in September 2014. It was produced by Will Packer and Lee Clay and directed by Sam Miller. It was written by Aimee Lagos and stars Idris Elba, Henry Simmons, Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Bibb, Mark Smith, Wilbur Fitzgerald, Frank Brennan and Kate Del Castillo. Paul Haslinger wrote the music. In spite of a predictable story flow this is a well-made film with excitement and a clearly charismatic, fear inspiring villain played by Idris Elba.

The story starts when the character of Colin Evans played by Idris Elba is denied parole and breaks free from prison transport. Colin Evans is a very dangerous, violent and manipulative criminal who winds up in the life of Terri Granger played by Taraji P. Henson. He shows up at her home asking for help to get a tow truck. The story unfolds as a cat and mouse game of wits as Taraji realizes she is dealing with a dangerous person.

Although the fight scenes in these types of stories are never believable the intelligence of the characters makes this a film worth watching. In my opinion, since Terri is an intelligent character and by no means Colin´s physical equal the fight scenes should have been short, surprises sprinkled toward the end.

Another plus for the film is the likeability of the characters. We get a good picture of people that could easily be our friends or neighbors and we like them. Even the villain of the story is charismatic.

This is a well-made film with very good acting and that is why I recommend it as a must see and own.
