“Office Space” is an American, comedy written and directed by Mike Judge. It stars Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, David Herman, Ajay Naidu, Diedrich Bader, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Richard Riehle, Alexandra Wentworth, Joe Bays, John C. McGinley, Paul Willson, Kinna McInroe, Todd Duffey, Greg Pitts, Charissa Allen, Jennifer Jane Emerson, Orlando Jones and Rupert Reyes. This film has become a sort of cult classic with its depiction of office politics, complete with asshole managers, sleazy  business consultants and the everyday humdrum. This is a fun watch and will have particular appeal to anyone who´s worked in such environments.

“Office Space” is the story of Peter Gibbons, played by Ron Livingston. He is an programmer at a company called Initech and he hates his job. His manager is a complete idiot and eventually the company is looking to lay off employees. He´s also got a love interest named Joanna, played by Jennifer Aniston.  It sounds simple and even trite but it is not. It is funny and could be a fairly accurate depiction of the office environment so many people deal with on a daily basis. All kinds of shenanigans take place.

The character of Bill Lumbergh, the office manager, played by Gary Cole, is brilliant. I couldn´t stop laughing because so many people know a manager like him. He´s cut throat but polite, petty but formal, basically any stranger walking by would describe him as `professional` but anyone that knows him would agree he´s an SOB. He wears a good mask is what I´m trying to say, and because of that mask he is able to thrive in corporate culture. We all know people like him and that is why this simple comedy resonates with so many people. People like Lumbergh exist in the corporate world, academia and all other walks of life. I have to say that they are more prevalent in sectors where you can reap high rewards. Nonetheless Lumbergh is a trip.

I have to say that me and my friends had a good laugh when we saw this movie. There´s something funny about someone stuck in a crap environment and just spinning their wheels, going through the motions of the daily grudge. To see Peter and his friends try to get out and sink deeper is just too much. The story will appeal to anybody who´s had an asshole of a boss or just a bad work environment.

“Office Space” is a fun, dopey comedy that will have you chuckling weeks after you´ve seen it. I highly recommend it as a must see and own. It´s a comedy that stood the test of time and is a cult classic for a good reason.
