“Philip K. Dick – Electric Dreams” is an anthology, scifi, TV series so every episode is a world with different characters. In other words each episode is an entirely different story. This gives a fresh start with new ideas and themes for every episode. I place it among the better scifi, TV series anthologies such as the classic TV series “The Twilight Zone”, “The Outer Limits”, “Black Mirror” and “One Step Beyond”.
I don´t want to give away spoilers but you have one episode called “The Hood Maker” that deals with assimilation of telepathic people into a society of non-telepathic people. This assimilation is not so smooth as most are not and it implies the resulting society will become a different one after several revolutions etc. It also deals with the idea of one type of people replacing another and that´s just one episode.
Another episode called “Crazy Diamond” takes place in a world too strange to imagine. It´s a world that is able to manipulate life to create people, called Jacks and Jills, who have shorter lifespans and varying degrees of sentience. They can also combine animal and human genetic blueprints to create hybrids that are bred not to take offense to anything and do the menial work. They are basically slaves bred to be content. I don´t want to give too much away but it is such a strange world with strange problems. I was balled over by the imagination of it.
Like all anthologies each viewer will have those episodes they prefer and those they don´t like. Many of the stories are very good but what I really liked about it was the imaginative worlds Philip K. Dick and the writers created for us.
I recommend “Philip K. Dick – Electric Dreams” because its a much needed scifi, anthology with fresh ideas in an entertainment world where so much is already so stale. The themes are very relevant today and will probably continue to be for years to come and the characters are strange and in some cases likeable. This really is a journey into the strange world of Philip K. Dick´s imagination.
