Ride The Whirlwind
released 1966
“Ride The Whirlwind” is an American western directed by Monte Hellman and stars Jack Nicholson, Millie Perkins, Harry Dean Statton, Tom Filer, Katherine Squire, George Mitchell, John Hackett Rupert Crosse and Cameron Mitchell. It was produced by Jack Nicholson, Roger Corman, John Herman Shaner and Monte Hellman. The music was composed by Robert Jackson Drasnin. This is a film with a good story.
This is a film about a group of good people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. This storyline is most often seen in horror films, dramas, survival or even comedies. The story is simple and fast-paced.
”Ride The Whirlwind” is an action-packed, western with a very interesting story. It was released in 1966 but could very well have come out this year. It is timeless and the story is relevant today. It deals with a group of honest cowboys who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. They are caught between a vigilante group /bounty hunters / the law and a group of criminals. The story is a cat and mouse chase between the bounty hunters and the criminals with the honest cowboys running for their lives. There is no comfortable, happy Hollywood ending either.
This is an old, little known film that I consider a classic because of how well and unpretentious it is. I recommend “Ride The Whirlwind” as a must see and even own in case it goes out of print.
