Birth Of The AI Assistant

In antiquity, the days of old, before computers, cell phones, trains, planes and cars we had a much more calorie based economy. We had an economy, society that was closer to the ones found in the animal kindgom like in ant mounds, bee hives, lion prides etc. where work got done by elbow grease, as the expression goes. If you watch nature shows the way I do you see how an ant colony will forage for the right kind of leaves, or food, cut that food into pieces and carry it back to the colony for food. It is all done by the strength of their mandibles and limbs, and what strong creatures they are. Some scientists believe that ants are the most successful life form after bacteria. But I digress.
Now shift your attention to human society in antiquity and you see more ingenuity than strength. Human society is great at building tools with often the intention of changing their environment. Not always but often. Some very smart people say that warfare and migration are some of the biggest forces to move human society forward and to evolve their tools. We have reached a level of complexity as a society with our tools, in such a short period of time, I don’t believe archeologist in the distant future will be able to explain this. They might even assume a more developed society came down from the heavens and helped us. But again, I digress.
I’m thinking particularly about our latest tools to hit our markets. Not just computers or cell phones. Those were just the precursor for arguably our greatest achievement, so far. It is our greatest tool to date that will soon not be a tool. Very soon this tool will not have the classification of tool because it will be sentient… probably… At least that’s my opinion. And that marvel is what we now call AI.
If a computer can hold vast amounts of data, well beyond what our feeble memories can, and can perform complex calculations faster than we ever could then the emerging AI technology will soon become the greatest beneficiaries of those technologies. Let me explain.
They say that the emerging AI will not only mimic or learn how o be human but live and thrive in the human world at a much higher competency with our technologies than we can imagine. For example, the new sentient robots, AI, could be the better pilot of a plane than a person. So, if you want to fly somewhere in the not-too-distant future you might have only robotic/ AI pilots. If you want your finances managed, well the AI can do a better job than any person etc.
So, where does this leave us now? I see the emergence of AI assistants the way they had human slaves in antiquity. The apps we use today could soon be replaced by the AI of tomorrow that have far more access to all aspects of our lives, even the most intimate ones. Imagine AI blocking people in social media it deems not appropriate for you. The emerging AI could very well be like having a secretary, assistant and mother around you all the time. And if you refuse to answer a call from them they can always just invade your life as a hologram. That’s funny but annoying too.
Anyway, that’s my ramblings for the universe to digest. Enjoy.
