”The Edge of Tomorrow” is an action packed American scifi film produced by Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally, Jeffrey Silver, Gregory Jacobs and Jason Hoof. It was directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Franz Drameh, Jonas Armstrong, Masayoshi Haneda and Brendan Gleason. The story deals with an alien invasion by creatures called the ”Mimics” who can also manipulate time. This is an action packed scifi film with a great story.

The story begins with the character of Major William Cage (played by Tom Cruise) meeting with a General Brigham (played by Brendan Gleeson) and subsequently getting demoted and sent to the front lines of the war against an alien invasion. It is important to say that William Cage is a despicable person who tries to blackmail General Brigham in order to get out of serving on the front lines.

William Cage dies in combat but returns over and over again to life. This gives him the chance to reset his life each time he dies, stop the alien invasion and gradually change into a better person. As he does his days over and over he gains the knowledge of the effects of his decisions on the future and this makes him a wiser and better person.

He is trained by Sergeant Rita Vrataski (played by Emily Blunt), who had the ability once but lost it and the two go on a mission to stop the alien invasion. Sergeant Rita Vrataski is the real hero of the film who trains William Cage as a soldier. She is as brave and capable as Cage is ineffective. Her training of Cage makes him into a better soldier and some of her good qualities rub off on him. Qualities like focus, bravery and selflessness.

This is a fun action packed film, where the main characters Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt do their own stunts. This film is not monotonous and the character of William Cage starts as a lecherous boob and develops into a hero. This movie also avoided the silly explanations of time and time travel. They introduced the idea of the ”reset of time” which is simple and plausible. Also, you can´t help but think of the concept of reincarnation in this film too. Here are two characters who have re-done parts of their lives many times. I really enjoyed this film and recommend it to all fans of scifi or anyone who wants to watch a good movie.
