“The Others” is an American, Spanish, French and Italian film that can best be described as gothic horror, psychological thriller and part mystery.  It was produced by Fernando Bovaira, Jose Luis Cuerda and Sunmin Park and was directed by Alejandro Amenabar. It stars Nicole Kidman, Fionnula Flanagan, Christopher Eccleston, Alakina Man, James Bentley, Eric Sykes, Elaine Cassidy, Renee Asherson, Gordon Reid, Keith Allen, Michelle Fairley, Alexander Vince, Ricardo Lopez and Aldo Grilo. It won several awards and was liked by critics and viewers alike. This is your well done horror tale with a simple story.

“The Others” is the story of Grace Stewart, played by Nicole Kidman, who lives in a remote house in the Channel Islands with her two children. Her children have a rare disease that makes them photosensitive to light. So light in this house is not a welcomed thing and the curtains are pulled all the time. She hires three servants and learns from one of her servants who worked in the house before that the previous occupant went mad. This really sets the story as a kind of haunted house tale but it is more than that. Strange things began to happen and Grace soon experience hauntings by entities she calls `The Others´.

This is an interesting twist on the haunted house, ghost genre with a story that develops very well and acting that is fantastic.  You have a character named Grace who is alone in a remote, haunted house with two small children who have a rare condition. This is not your trite haunted house story. Even though this film was made a while ago it is timeless and worth the watch at any time. What I´m saying is the person picking up this film 10 years from now will still enjoy and it won´t seem too dated.

This is a really good movie and I really enjoyed it, so go out there and enjoy it yourselves.
