Written by Pierre Boulle

”The Planet Of The Apes” is a French science fiction classic novel written by the French author Pierre Boulle in 1963. It is the inspiration for several movies and TV shows. This is probably the most famous science fiction story of animal to human relationship reversal in nature. The protagonist is stuck on a planet dominated by apes where human beings are the less developed animals. This is a classic story twist that gives us a view of ourselves from the outside . ”The Planet Of The Apes” is a science fiction classic.

”The Planet Of The Apes” tells the story of 3 men and an chimpanzee who travel to Betelgeuse in the year 2500 and land on a planet they name ”Soror”, which is Latin for sister. The protagonists name is Ulysse Merou and he is a journalist. His companions Arthur Levain is killed by apes in the begining and Professor Antelle is later found intellectually compromised in a zoo. The chimpanzee is killed by the savage girl Nova on arrival. On Soror apes are the more intelligent species and run the planet with the same cruelty as humans do on Earth.

The themes of ”The Planet Of The Apes” are universal and relevant decade after decade. The ape society is cruel and there are stricking similarities between the ape society and our own. Another interesting theme is the way organized, war-based societies handle heretical truths. Knowledge that could advance society in the sciences or technology is suppressed to maintain a status quo for the ruling class. This book is brilliant because it deals with the collective hypocracy in both ape and human society. The ending is also very original. For this reason ”The Planet Of The Apes” is a must read and own.
