DSC00885”The Storm” is an environmental, action, mystery novel about the adventures of Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala. As part of the National Underwater Marine Agency (NUMA), Kurt and Joe are environmental agents that investigate a mysterious case in the Indian Ocean onboard a NUMA research vessel and the disappearance of its crew. It is number 10 in the NUMA File series and is an exciting read.

The elements of this story I really enjoyed, besides the action and likeability of the heroes, was the environmental message and the use of nanotechnology in the storyline. These are two very modern themes that give us a plot we care about. Audiences have changed in this modern era of computers and social connectivity. We no longer care so much about the villian who wants to rule the world or own all the gold in the world. Villians who damage the environment or manipulate the weather or water conditions are a much bigger threat to us nowodays. Jinn al-Khalif is such a man. He´s not only a man with means but also a villian with a frightening technology. That is what hooked me to the story.

Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala are your typical, likeable heroes. They´re fit, dashing to the ladies, smart, resourceful, they have a sense of humor and are environmentally conscience. They are very much the classic heroes in our western culture with a modern touch. You gotta love marine biologists and all those who fight criminality and defend the environment too. With exotic locations and beautiful people this novel basically reads itself. I recommend it for those with long boring waits when traveling or those beautiful days in the park.

This is my first Clive Cussler and Graham Brown novel and I liked it. It was exciting and it broke the monotony of the type of books I´ve been reading lately. This is a fun read and I recommend it. You might want to start with the first book of the series though. I believe it´s called ”Serpent”. (You want to double check that though).
