Tremors
(released 1990)
”Tremors” is an American film that is a little hard to categorize. It´s a horror and comedy film at the same time. It is directed Ron Underwood and written by Brent Maddock, S. Wilson and Ron Underwood. It stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire and it has several sequels.
The story takes place in a dusty town in the middle of nowhere. Val McKee (played by Kevin Bacon) and Earl Basset (played by Fred Ward) leave for the nearest town to seek their fortunes. They discover a dead body on an electrical tower and from there everything goes to pot. The dead body was a local named Earl and he died of dehydration because he refused to climb down.
The town´s phones are dead and they later find that there is a creature that can move very quickly through the ground and pluck them from the surface like a shark would grab a swimmer. This creature is very dangerous and has them trapped in town on roofs and other out of the way places. The characters find themselves trying to figure a way out of there mess.
Although this film has the excitement of a horror movie and a horrible creature the characters are just a little too dopey to make this movie terrifying. You have, for example, the survivalist couple or the two aimless main characters who are likeable but are hard to take seriously. This movie is great fun and the story is also very good. This movie is dated but it´s what I would describe as ”a good time”. I recommend this movie because it´s fun and sometimes exciting.
