“Watchmen” is an American superhero, distopic, action, drama based on the DC Comics limited series of the same name created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. For those not in the know, it has arguably been called the best graphic novel written because it´s that good. The TV series was created by David Lindelof with HBO which has put out so much good content these days. Now this TV series has a truly enormous cast of incredible writers, actors, producers, directors etc. that I can only name a few. The cast of actors include Louis-Gossett Jr., Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Sara Vickers, Frances Fisher, James Wolk, Dylan Shombing, Adelynn Spoon, Jean Smart, Don Johnson, Jacog Ming-Trent, Lily Rose Smith, Hong Chau, Danny Boyd Jr., Christie Amery, Adelaide Clemens, Alexis Lauder, Jim Beaver, Charles Brice, Cheyenne Jackson, Regina Ting Chen, Miles Doleac, Robert Wisdom, Varryl Vano and many others.

“Watchmen” takes place in an alternate reality of present day Tulsa, Oklahoma where superheroes are outlawed and white supremacist terrorist groups pose a serious problem to the stability and safety of American society. It is a alternate reality where police must hide their identities and wear masks due to threats from white supremacist, terrorist groups. I don´t want to give away spoilers but I do want to say that this is a future that may seem possible but I never could have imagined. Kuddos on the imagination of it.

Alternate reality stories are often interesting because they show us a possible society directly out of the imagination of a writer. They often shock us in ways we did not expect and have us unconvincingly tell ourselves, “that could never happen”. And that is what I love about them. The world of the Watchmen is one were people are impassioned, misguided, fanatical and the most talented creators in society create the strangest technology for the weirdest reasons, like the big clock built by Lady Trieu, played by Hong Chau, that seems to have many functions. I liken alternate reality stories to being in a dreamworld, where a protagonist wakes up and has no clue where they are. (Think of Dark City). I did read the Watchmen graphic novel and enjoyed it so much but that did not mean that this series lost all its surprises. On the contrary.
