The Future Of The Internet

I saw a very interesting video the other day about a topic I had been pondering for some time. That topic is the future of the internet. More precisely, what will the future of the internet look like? That is a much bigger question than it sounds. Anything with trying to guess the future is a tricky endeavor because the possibilities are endless. Just think of how many stories exist where the protagonist is given a glimpse of the future but fills the entire picture in with their assumptions and ends up being wrong. A famous example of this is the play “Macbeth” by The Bard himself. Macbeth (and Lady Macbeth too) are given a very small clue what the future holds and being that he was so brutish and ruthless in mentality and action things did not go so well for him or the kingdom he tried to steal. What a great play. That is a very negative example and it’s also amazing how much of predicting the future involves negative predictions. Just watch the most popular finance or geopolitical forecasts from the experts and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Let me start by giving credit where credit is due. This idea is partly inspired by the content creator named “_” whose channel is called “_”.
Anywho, my opinion on the future of the internet goes as follows. Firstly, the internet is a wonderful thing for people and I dare say our species. The way ideas and stories of all kinds can be shared from an individual or group to nearly the entire species is nothing less than amazing. I believe that self expression and the sharing of ideas are an important need for everyone no matter what culture you come from. And I don’t necessarily mean everybody has to be famous either because fame can become very toxic.
There are however some very dangerous and not so good aspects to the internet like bullying, doxing, frauds of all kinds and misleading people with false information. These are not trivial crimes at all either because they cause so much damage to people and society at large. For example, people are pushed to suicide from online bullying, reputations and lives are destroyed by slander every single day and the list goes on. I’ve heard it said that organized crime even uses the dark web for the most heinous crimes. This is all true. And it’s important to keep this fact in mind and take precautions when online.
Think of one possible outcome where the internet as we know it and enjoy it is no longer worth visiting. This outcome sees a future where the internet is a dump of bad information, frauds of all kinds and the shadiest of vermin. There is a prediction where the internet content becomes just sludge and nearly all interesting content is gone, sucked away into some hole or abyss. Basically, a stroll online is like a journey through a war zone where you are put at risk in most ways you can imagine. Like me explain.
